Barbie is dominating the box office with astounding numbers while also becoming a social pink phenomenon among viewers.
Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, Barbie runs for a confirmed 113 minutes and 54 seconds. That's one hour and 54 minutes, in case you need to fit it in your Barbenheimer schedule alongside Oppenheimer's three-hour epic runtime.
Directed by Greta Gerwig (Little Women) and cowritten between her and her husband, filmmaker Noah Baumbach (White Noise), the movie follows Barbie as she travels with boyfriend Ken from Barbieland to the real world.
Alongside Robbie and Gosling, a long list of Hollywood A-listers complete the cast of the movie, including Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings' Simu Liu, Insecure's Issa Rae, Superstore's America Ferrera, Ghostbusters' Kate McKinnon, The Umbrella Academy's Ritu Arya, And Just Like That's Hari Nef, The Crown's Emerald Fennell, Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan, Elf actor Will Ferrell, and Arrested Development's Michael Cera.
Several British stars including Sex Education's Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa and Connor Swindells, and Stath Lets Flats' Jamie Demetriou, also star in the movie.
Greta Gerwig revealed that Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet almost had a cameo in the movie, but their schedules didn't allow it. Both actors have starred in Gerwig's first two movies, Lady Bird and Little Women.
The cast is star-studded, and so is the soundtrack. Sam Smith and Billie Eilish were the last ones to join the list of artists contributing to Barbie's songs, which include Dua Lipa's disco-inspired 'Dance the Night', Charli XCX's 'Speed Drive', Karol G's single 'Watiti', PinkPantheress' song 'Angel', and Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice's version of Aqua's iconic 'Barbie girl', renamed 'Barbie World' in this collaboration.
Lizzo, Tame Impala and Ava Max are other artists also featured in the impressive soundtrack.
La La Land's Ryan Gosling is also singing in the movie with the song 'I'm just Ken', written by Grammy-winner and Barbie composer Mark Ronson.
Barbie earned rave first reactions after its world premiere on July 9, calling it nothing short of "perfection" and "witty, heartfelt, and downright fun at times". Gosling is a standout as well, critics saying he's "a scene stealer delivering most of the laughs".
As we pointed out in our Digital Spy review: "Barbie is a delight, its mere existence as a big-budget, star-studded, female-focused Hollywood comedy is almost a miracle".
